1st graders celebrated Poetry Month by creating mystery object poems. Students closed their eyes and picked an item out of a box. Then, they described the object while their eyes were still closed. Their description became the body of the poem and the name of the object became the title. We also had a great discussion on poems and rhyming. Do all poems need to rhyme? After the mystery object activity some of their answers changed.
