Students in all grades tried computer progamming by using free tutorials on code.org. Some classes even tried programming our library robot named Dash through a maze! Thank you for all the volunteers for helping to make this event successful! Congrats to Hayden in 1st grade for winning the Amazon Fire Tablet raffle!

Students in all grades are learning how to be safe using technology. The 4th graders created "super digital citizens" that save the day when people are about to break a cyber safety rule. The third graders watched Faux Paws, short video clips about a cat that gets in trouble on the internet. The students then created their own videos explaining the three rules of cyber safety. (Videos coming soon!) This is a very important topic to also address at home. Below are a few websites that can help support and guide your conversations.
Netsmartz Common Sense Media IKeepSafe Mrs. Lynch's 5th grade class created spooky nursery rhymes today. This was inspired by the book Monster Goose by Judy Sierra. Check some of them out below...if you dare!
6th graders in Mrs. Banda's class were busy creating objects out of cardboard and other low tech materials (glue, tape, scissors, etc.) in the library earlier this month. This activity was a intro to our new maker center in the library, where students create unique projects using materials available in the library. This center encourages growth mindset and collaboration because students constantly plan, create, and evaluate their projects. I hope to expand the center in the future to also include high tech (coding, computer programming, circuits, etc.).
I hope you had a great summer vacation! This summer, I hiked to the top of Mount Washington with a few of my cousins. Mount Washington is the tallest mountain in the northeast (6,288 feet high) and is located in New Hampshire. I was a little nervous about hiking because I never attempted anything like this before (and yes, I will admit it...I am very clumsy). It is a difficult hike and I had to train for many months before I went on my trip. The trail is covered in rocks and boulders which were sometimes wet and slippery. It was scary at times, but I never gave up on my goal and made it to the top. I am sharing this story with you because you may also find your self in a difficult or "scary" situation this year. It might be a tough homework assignment, project, or math problem. Sometimes you need to push your self more then you think you can in order to grow. Did you know your mind works like a muscle? Neurons make more connections in the brain when you work hard on solving a problem. Effort actually makes your brain grow! WOAH!! I know, how cool is that? All you have to do is try and never give up. You're not alone either - teachers are here to help you and support you by giving you the tools you need to solve problems. I believe all of you have the ability to achieve your goals and solve any problem. All you have to do is put in the effort. And if you need any help, you know where to find me. Hint hint: The Library ;) Did you go on any fun adventures this summer? Leave a comment below!
This project was inspired by the nationalFavorite Poem Project. Third grade students split up into groups and were assigned a job (writer/typer, camera person, interviewer, or video editor). Then, they nominated a staff member or classmate to read their favorite poem and explain why they liked it. Check out our videos below! To learn more about the national project click here.

Students in 4th grade researched extreme weather by using websites and nonfiction books. Then, they created a script pretending they were on the news. They used the green screen app to make it look like they were really on set or reporting from a certain location.

2nd Graders researched an insect or arachnoid by using nonfiction books, encyclopedias, and websites. They used a graphic organizer to take notes. Then, they created a presentation on the ipad using the Prezi app. Some students even inserted videos in their presentation. Take a look below!
This week we got new books in the library. Check out what the 3rd & 4th grade book club members recommend below.
