Earlier this month, students participated in a book tasting. No, we didn't eat books! Students were encouraged to try reading different books that they may not normally pick. Each class had about 8 minutes to "sample" a book they've never read before from their table and write a review on their book tasting menu. We did this for a total of three books. We had lots of fun and discovered many new books to check out!
Students in all grade levels celebrated Computer Science Education Week by participating in a world wide event called Hour of Code during their library classes. Students learned about computer programming and coding. Then, they programmed robots and other characters on the computer or ipad by using specific codes to make the character move. Coding requires critical thinking and sequencing skills. It is also a valuable skill to learn due to the amount of high paying jobs available in the computer science field. Thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped make this event successful! Learn more about computer programming at home. Check out this website for free tutorials! You can also download the following programming apps on your tablet: Lightbot, The Foos, CargoBot, Kodable, Scratch Jr.
